Where We Are, And What's Next

 It's amazing how far God has brought this ministry and radio show in such a short period of time.

This week we air our ninth episode, featuring a conversation with one of my mentors - Don Harper. It speaks to one of Grand Slam Ministries core missions - Mentorship - and is also a great lesson on race relations.

We began the show on two stations - 94.5 FM The Answer in Greenville, SC; and Classic Country 92.9 FM, WZLA in Abbeville, SC.

Since then, we have added three other over-ther-air stations and three internet-only stations - including one in Paisley, Scotland, and another based out of Los Angeles. You can see the full listing of stations and Sunday air times in the previous post on this blog.

So what's next?

Well, in the immediate timeline, we have an opportunity to get the show on a station in San Francisco. The cost would be roughly $800 per month. We are praying for God's leadership and, if He wills, His provision.

But from a sustainability standpoint, there are two things we are praying about:

- Finding someone who can join GSM as a grant writer/fundraiser

- Developing a donor base of 200 people giving $25 per month, and the same number giving $10 per month.

If we can get to those numbers, the show could immediately be on as many as 40 stations - maybe more - coast to coast. And we could begin funding our core missions of mentorship and helping children with food and other necessities well ahead of schedule.

Would we love a major donor or donors who could take care of this with the stroke of a pen? Of course we would. And we will be happy to talk with anyone interested in helping in any way.

But long-term sustainability in our ministry is going to come from everyday people who believe in what Grand Slam Ministries is trying to accomplish, and feel God is leading them to help in some small way.

We know God is going to open the doors He wants open. He's going to send us the people He wants involved. Our prayer is that we wait on His timing, and don't try to get ahead of Him.

He has already done more than we could have ever imagined inside the first nine weeks. He is faithful. And we are trying to be, as well.

New Website Almost Done. But Until Then...

 A couple of weeks ago on our YouTube page we announced the upcoming new radio show that will be the starting point for everything we hope to accomplish with Grand Slam Ministries. The Dan Scott Show will air from 7-8 p.m. on Sunday nights, beginning Jan. 8, 2023, on 94.5 FM, The Answer - WGTK.

The show website is in production. The Grand Slam Ministries website actually points you to our Facebook page for the time being. But once finished, www.danscottshow.org will be the focal point of everything.

Including the easiest way to donate to support Grand Slam Ministries.

Through Zeffy, you can make one-time or monthly donations, get an immediate tax recepit (GSM is an IRS-approved 501c3), and send us an email with prayer requests or any other questions you may have.

As we pointed out in the video, after much prayer and consulting with our mentors, we believe the route God is leading us is to prepay the first year of the radio show before Episode 1 on Jan. 8. This will give the show the proper foundation for growth.

We've already paid for the first quarter of the year - $2,600 covering 13 of the 52 episodes. We have received a pledge for $1,000 which covers another five. 

So we still need to raise $6,800 before Jan. 8 to prepay the full year. Can you help?

Here We Go A-Blogging...Again

Welcome to yet another attempt at blogging by yours truly.

A former ink-stained wretch (that's newspaper guy for you younger folks), I've dabbled on and off - mostly off - with blogs since going full time into broadcasting back in 2001. Quite honestly, serving as a one-man sports department - sometimes leading a large department of 2 people - for over a decade, I got burned out on writing.

But with the new radio show that's coming, along with our new nonprofit Grand Slam Ministries, the website needs a blog. So, here we are.

I'm trusting God to provide the inspiration for the written word, as well as the spoken word. And hope to use the blog as not only a compliment to go deeper on radio topics, but to share testimonies, prayer requests and behind-the-scenes info from both the show and GSM.

All with the sole purpose of glorifying Jesus Christ.

The new radio show is still a month or two away. Honestly, the timing will be determined by how quickly we find businesses and/or individuals to underwrite the cost of prepaying a full year of airtime. After a lot of prayer, and plenty of previous mistakes, I believe that's the way we should approach this project.

Currently we have about 1/3 of the necessary cost. But as I have told many people recently, God didn't open the doors for this nonprofit to happen - and He did, in incredible ways - only to allow it to wither on the vine due to lack of funding.

So, we pray. We explore options. And we work while we wait.

I will try to be faithful in updating the blog on a regular basis. My prayer is that it will be a blessing to you, as well as a tool to share the love of Jesus Christ and the work He is doing in my life. And the lives of others.
